Happy Birthday, Tammy

Started off today with me getting out of bed before 7 to change Ian and start getting things underway. Managed to get some cinnamon toast, a cup of coffee and a carnation in a vase to her in bed. The flowers were a present from Miranda. Tammy opened her cards and her present and managed to get a bite or two of her toast with the children circling. 🙂

Now we’re pondering Roombas and awaiting the time when we’ll drop the kids off at Jeff and Sasha’s. We’re going to go and see Avatar (noon showing). Thanks to Jeff and Sasha for looking after the kids for a little while.

The rest of the day was an interesting and thought-provoking mix of being busy and being relaxed.

Tammy and I dropped the kids off with Sasha. It was a beautiful day, so the kids spent most of the time playing outside and getting dirty. 🙂 Tammy and I stopped off in Langford to exchange the nightie I bought her for one that fit better. Then we were off to the theatre, where we found that the showing was 1/2 hour later than we thought. So we bought our tickets and then called Sasha. We wouldn’t be back in Sooke by 4, when they needed to leave to go to a Beavers dinner for Katya, so we arranged to meet them at the Colwood Community Hall at 4:45. This meant that Tammy and I had a little time to kill both before and after the film, which was a nice thing. We wandered over to the Tillicum mall before the film, and afterwards walked around the Westshore mall area and had a nice, relaxing coffee while waiting for the time to meet to roll around.

I commented that I hadn’t had a chance to hold Tammy’s hand as we walked in such a long time, I was out of practice. 🙂 She laughed and said she was used to holding Miranda’s or Ian’s hand in a backwards grip to drag them along. 🙂 We had a nice time enjoying our coffee and the brief time away from the kids, and that was enough to recharge the batteries and we were both really happy to get them back.

We watched the movie, and both enjoyed it. The Canada-US gold medal hockey game was being shown in one of the other theatres. Tammy had set up the VCR to record it, and as luck would have it, the game ended at almost the exact same time as the movie, so as I was waiting in the hall for Tammy to come out of the ladies’ room, I overheard not only that Canada won, but the final score and who scored the goal, too. Oh well. I ended up watching the game anyways later in the evening.

We picked up the kids, then called ahead to the My Chosen Cafe for pizza, then went and picked it up. (Thanks Dad, for giving us the number when we called!!) At Miranda’s request, we watched an episode of Blue Planet while eating our pizza and then went upstairs for Tammy’s birthday cake.

I stayed up too late watching the taped game and the various sports shows. I kinda wish I’d watched the closing ceremonies for the games, but I think I managed to watch enough highlights to get a feel for it.

Happy 38th, Tammy.
