Wagner Visit, Playhouse Construction

I’m tired, after a good honest day’s work. Yesterday, before Miranda and I headed to karate, Tammy noticed that Lorri and Chris had a big white tent up in their back yard. Turned out they were drying it, but when I ran into Chris, he was looking to borrow some hex keys for the kids’ play area that he and Lorri had bought for Braiden. I obliged, and then went over to snoop and it wasn’t just a play area. It was a two-storey climbing wall, swings and tube slide monstrosity. He and she were just starting to bang it together. I loaned them a few more tools that I thought they would need, including my impact driver, then I said I would come back in the evening to grab the batteries for charging.

Then Miranda and I headed for karate and Tammy and Ian stayed home until around 2:00. Then we converged on Jackson and Michelle’s house for a barbeque. The kids had a great time playing with Jasmine and Shanelle, and we had a great visit. Hamburgers, dogs and the associated sides were eaten, and Tammy had made an angel food cake with seven-minute frosting for dessert. We stayed until a little past 7:30, then headed home.

When we got there, I knocked on Chris and Lorri’s door, but there was no answer. I went around to their back yard, and there they were, still struggling with the major pieces. I offered to give them a hand today, so starting about 9:00, that’s what I did. The first thing we had to do was move the apparatus. They’d been building it on the lawn, in the place they intended it to be. It was sloped and uneven, and that was forcing all the major pieces in different non-level, non-square directions. So we moved it onto their flagstone patio area and shimmed it until it was level. We took some of the non-square pieces apart and put them together properly, then new construction started.

It was a long day. For most of it, the kids played with Braiden and their Irish setter Bailey while we worked. Tammy headed out for a grocery shopping trip and brought back some chicken and salads for a lunch. We got quite a bit done: the last part was putting the roof on, which was a feat in and of itself. We quit when it started to shower a bit, and the plan is to do some more work tomorrow evening.

I am pretty proud of myself. I was helpful, and managed to show them how to build it right, and the building is towering about 12 feet in the air, true from top to bottom. 🙂

  1. Location! location! location!
Wow! That is certainly a play station! Good thing you have experience in building your garden shed and the play station in your yard. Sounds like you had a great weekend.
