Not an auspicious start to my Sunday: I crashed on my bike ride this morning. Not too bad, all things considered. The worst is either the skinned knee or the jammed thumb. I managed to ride home afterwards, although I had to hold my headlight, which snapped off in the crash.

Too much speed going over the bridge over Ayum Creek on the Goose. Front tire slid out when I tried to turn. Oh well.

  1. Reckless young whipper-snapper!
Now you know where to use Dad’s saying…"I’m not dead yet!"…

  2. Today (and last night), the most annoying thing was the skinned knee. I did a number on it, grating away the skin in three places. It doesn’t feel good to bend it.

I just dropped my bike off at the shop. I was planning to take it in for a tune up now that I’ve put some miles on it, but now I wanted them to check for crash damage, too. A quick inspection showed a slightly bent front wheel and the front derailleur out of alignment. Will pick it up later today, but I’ll let my knee heal before riding again.

  3. I guess this is a bad week for knees. Last set I tweaked my knee and it has gotten progressively worse to a point where I now have to put a claim in and see the doc.. 🙁

  4. Sorry to hear about the knee. Mine isn’t anything permanent: I’ve just turned the skin into hamburger. Keeping it clean, but it still hurts a lot.

Got my bike back. No permanent damage to report there, either. Should be back to riding as soon as the knee lets me.

  5. Went to see the doctor about my knee yesterday. Mostly as a precaution: Tammy wasn’t happy with the way it looked on Wednesday, so she made an appointment for me.

I would say that it is getting better every day, and it is better today than it was, but since I had the appointment I went anyways. The doc greeted me with "Nice road rash! Is that what you’re here to see me for?" So he had a look at it, and he thought it was healing well. I told him about the pinkness that had spread away from one of the abrasions on Wednesday, and he said that that was what you had to look for: infection spreading to healthy tissue. He gave me a prescription for an antibiotic that I should fill if I see any of them.

But he said I shouldn’t worry. It looks like it is healing well. Even if I’m sick and tired of hobbling around and doing very little exercise.

  6. Finally back on the bike. Took a ride after lunch yesterday (5.75 km) and then did my usual "commute" (6.25 km) this morning. Will miss this afternoon’s "commute" due to orthotics appointment. One healing abrasion didn’t like the experience (slightly), but overall a success.
