An Exploration Day

You know what they say: when life gives you lemons…

Today was a gorgeous day. Unfortunately, I’m not in shape to take advantage of it by cycling, or even going to Nakiska. Nakiska closes for the summer next weekend, so I asked Tammy if she would be interested in taking the kids skiing as a last-ditch attempt to salvage the ski season this year. We’ve only been twice this winter, and Tammy’s only been once. It’s been a series of things preventing us from going: Ian was sick on the week  before Christmas, when I was off and planning to go more than once, and then I was sick on Spring Break, and now my bike crash.

So, with that grumpy tone, we needed to go to Nakiska to take Ian’s skis back to end our season-long rental. To make lemonade, we added a couple of activities on to the trip. The first was exploring southwards on Highway 40, towards Highwood Pass. The pass is closed in the wintertime, but when the weather gets nice, it’s a destination for cyclists who have an amazing mountain road without cars on it. Tammy’s suggesting that we give that a shot next weekend… We stopped along the way back and did a tiny bit of exploring.

We also drove west a little, and had lunch in Canmore. We’d driven through it a number of times, but never stopped. It’s got a 360 degree mountain view. Nice spot.

So that was our little adventure for the day.

Oh, and we went to Home Depot and picked up a screen to cover the vent that the birds nested in last year. Then I went to look at the vent when we got home, and guess what flew out? Too late. I’ll have to install it after I clean the nest out in the summer.
