Ian Solved The Cube!

Ian has been practicing solving one side, and today he managed to do it in two and a half minutes. I was confident that he understood the Rubik’s Cube well enough to follow instructions on how to solve the rest of the sides.

We sat down at the computer and a short while later:

Ian and I spent some time on the Monday writing down the algorithms for solving the second layer and third layer of the cube. I showed him how to use mnemonics to memorize some of them, and now he can solve all but the last two steps without following instructions.

It’s funny how the Rubik’s Cube is making some sort of a comeback. Tammy was driving through Bowness yesterday, and saw two more little boys sitting at the bus stop playing with cubes. Maybe it has something to do with the speed cubing competition this weekend in the Southwest.
