Hello from Tech Trek 2016

It’s that time of year; I find myself in rural Southern Ontario for the annual meeting of all of the technical staff at Esri Canada.

We are at the Nottawasaga Resort in Alliston, Ontario for the third year, taking in three days of technical presentations, workshops and other things.

There are plenty of activities as well. The first night was a dodgeball tournament as an ice breaker. I was the captain of a team called “Ball2Map”. We did pretty well, but were eliminated two games from the final.

Tonight, I would have played golf as I have in previous years, but I didn’t think my hand, wrist and shoulder were up to it. So I got to experience one of the other activities. There was watching “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in the ballroom, or playing in the euchre tournament, or playing board games. I chose board games. I played a number of games of Quiplash (not a board game), Monopoly Deal (also not a board game) and Cards Against Humanity (you get the idea).

Tomorrow’s my “big day”, with lots of architecture sessions to attend and host, then it’s ball hockey in the evening. Thursday, I’ll be flying home.

With all that happened on the weekend before I left, I didn’t even get a chance to post about going to the Calgary Speedcubing event with the kids.

Or about Farida’s birthday party, which Miranda attended at the Williams-Sonoma store at Chinook Centre. Yeah, a birthday party in a kitchen supplies store. They got to make pizzas, decorate cupcakes, and try handmade ice cream.

Ian, and I (and Tammy, when she finished work) cooled our heels, which included checking out the Tesla store in the mall.

  1. I’m back home. Tech Trek went well. Ball hockey was fun, but I’m stiff now. My cardio is excellent, but I don’t use those “running around” muscles much. 🙂
