That is to say I brought out my pastels today. I had been thinking about them the last little while, and when I went by WetCanvas last night, the monthly challenge in the soft pastels forum was “sunsets”. I like painting skies and I have been known to tackle a sunset or two.

Despite having only about four and a half hours’ sleep last night (I was awake at 3:30 for unknown reasons and couldn’t get back to sleep), I brought up my table easel, pastels, gouache, brushes and palette. It took me until the afternoon to find the energy and ambition to do it, but in the end I spent probably a couple of hours and created this.

I don’t think the photo quite does it justice, but that’s okay. I selected the last reference photo from the challenge:

I’m reasonably happy with it. If I wanted it to be better, I should practice more, right?

Updated

Based on the feedback I got on the forum, I touched up the clouds a bit. Here’s the updated photo.
