Why is it you always learn lessons AFTER the event?

I suppose it’s just like our couple near-disasters with our photos and lack of backups. Sometimes doing the right thing might seem like too much work, or too expensive until the consequences arrive. Then you wish you’d listened to that nagging voice.

Today, I spent over $300 paying for a mistake like that. Not nearly as traumatic as losing a photo collection or similar.

I dropped my iPhone. I shattered the screen. Yes, it was in its case. No, the case didn’t help. Yes, I was riding my bike to work at the time. No, I have no idea how it managed to fall out of the pocket of my riding jacket.

I am kicking myself, because immediately after I got it in March I went to the Source by Circuit City in Sooke to get a case. I looked at various cases, and not many jumped out at me, but there were some by OtterBox that were fairly expensive ($60 to $100) and bulky. I thought they would be a good idea for when I’m riding, but I just got a cheap case. Now, looking back, I wish that I’d gotten the case. But that’s not the way life works.

So after I we went to the Apple Store this evening to get the phone replaced, we stopped by the Source and I picked up an Otter Box Defender case. It’s blue.

  1. That must have been maddening! What can I say? Never mind, a lesson learned. We all have things like that happen. How’s the new phone and case?

  2. The new phone is the same as the old phone, except for the serial number. But right after I got it, it was ensconced in its protective case so I haven’t really seen much of it. 🙂 The case is pretty bulky. If I had to put it in my pocket, it would be ridiculous. But it has a belt clip, so that’s good. So far, so good. I’ll definitely feel better about taking it with me cycling.
