As foreshadowed yesterday, today I participated in the Mountain Equipment Co-op Spring Road Ride. It’s my first “century” ride: a 100 km ride. Okay, so it was two kilometres shy because at the last minute they changed the course at the Bragg Creek end, but I’m counting it. 🙂 It was an out-and-back from Turner Valley to Bragg Creek:
I had to leave early this morning: just after seven. It took over an hour to drive to the start point. I met up with a number of my Bow Cyclist teammates, and spent most of the day riding with this bunch. In fact, I spent most of the day riding with Mike (second from right):
He and I were about the same level, so we rode ahead, then waited at the water stations for Kevin and Marlo to catch up. I covered the distance in 3 hours and 25 minutes (minus water breaks). Overall, it was over four hours. The day was beautiful (perhaps too beautiful: I have a bit of a sunburn now) and there was a good crowd for the ride:
There were two distances: 60 km and 100 km. The last 10 km of my ride were painful, but 60 km would have been too short. I’m pretty tired and sore now, but happy. Tammy got a cake to celebrate my survival:
Good for you, Simon!
Turner Valley & Bragg Creek so beautiful for a bike ride.
New hairstyle, Simon 🙂
Yeah, I had a shower and didn’t bother to comb my hair. Didn’t really think there was a photo opportunity. 🙂
I was off the computer yesterday, sorry for late comments – I know you have been waiting with bated breath!!! …..My goodness, can’t even imagine driving it in the car! Congratulations! I hope you are not too uncomfortable this morning.
MEC has put up a Flickr album for the ride: https://www.flickr.com/phot…
Yours truly appears in three of the photos. 🙂
