A Good Day Skiing

It took over a month’s layoff and an aborted trip last weekend, but we finally got a “good” day’s skiing. 🙂  Today, we were more prepared, and we were on the road by 8:30. We beat the rush, and there were no planned lessons for Tammy and the kids. We were just going to go skiing.

We got there, we rented Miranda’s gear, and then the kids took one run down the bunny hill. Ian was looking a bit rusty, so Miranda and I went to the Bronze chairlift while Tammy and Ian stayed at the bunny hill. Miranda and I took two runs down the easy runs before heading back to the bunny hill to check up on Tammy and Ian. We had great news for them: there were more runs open today. In December, they only had two runs open from the Bronze Chair, but now three more were open, including one that was easier. This was even better than it would seem at first, because what it meant was that the same number of skiers were distributed over more runs. It seemed a lot less crowded.

Then Ian and Tammy were ready to head for the chairlift as well. So we all skied down (some faster than others), and I took Ian up on the chairlift for the first time. He did great. We had three more runs (Tammy had two), before calling it a day just before lunch and heading home. Tammy took this video of me and Ian coming down the end of the last run of the day.

    1. Hi Dad. Little kids generally don’t user poles when they are learning. Their skis are short enough that they can “skate” around, and long, sharp metal things in the hands of seven-year-olds is almost never a good idea. Miranda has poles, and Ian constantly asks if he can have poles, but he doesn’t need them.
