Trip to the Auto Show

The 2015 Calgary Auto Show is on now. Not that we’re buying a car right away, but I thought that Ian might like to see it. So after supper tonight, he and I jumped on the C-Train and headed for the BMO Centre. He was free to enter, and my ticket was $10. Train ride was “free” because we had transit passes.

He made a bee line for the Audi exhibit, but was a little disappointed when there was no R8 on display. We saw Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches, but true to his idiosyncratic nature, he was more excited to look at the Mazdas.

We only stayed about an hour, then it was back on the train for home.

I didn’t get a lot of time to look at anything in particular, what with Mr. Short Attention Span with me. 🙂 I was interested in looking at the compact CUV-type or wagon-type AWD cars. If I was going to replace the Mazda 5, that’s likely the sort of vehicle I would look at. The short list includes the Volkswagen Tiguan, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester and the Nissan Rogue. There are a few AWD wagons on the market, but they tend to be more up-market than I would be comfortable in. I did check out the Volvo V-60, and it’s nice, but for the money I could max out a CX-5 GT and still buy a gold Apple Watch.

Of the cars on that list, the ones that stick out to me are the CX-5 and the Tiguan. There are rumours of a VW Golf Sportwagen and a VW Golf Alltrack (think the Outback wagon from days gone by) coming to Canada, and the Tiguan will be revised this coming year. Or maybe nothing will happen. I hardly drive the Mazda these days anyways. I could pour the money into it and make a hot rod!  LOL
