And Now… The Bonus Room

It’s like the Pringles commercials… once you pop, you just can’t stop.

The bonus room is now ready to paint. Tammy started it: she drafted the kids into lifting and carrying stuff out of the room and to the basement this morning. This afternoon we pulled all the nails and anchors and filled, and pulled off the old baseboards.

The big questions at this point:

  1. What sort of curtains/blinds will we put in the windows? We really don’t like the flimsy curtain rod and do-nothing curtains that were there.
  2. How will the “platforms” (like above the fireplace) turn out? They all had what appeared to be water damage to their surfaces. I have sanded as I could, but the tops are made of some sort of particle board. Worst case scenario: I have to tear them all off and replace them with something more substantial.

Tammy’s itching to start the priming. I need a rest.

    1. Acknowledged. I’m already laying plans for putting a new surface on the fireplace niche. The others are very minor and have sanded down well enough for present.

  1. I’d like to comment here, just to vent my spleen. We’re at that early stage of painting the room: the primer is in the corners, and next comes priming the walls. The room is bigger than even I gave it credit for, and having to maneuver a ladder to reach the top slows things down a fair bit.
In short, it feels like work. And knowing that even when we finish this room that we’re less than half done is discouraging. After this room, my attention will shift to the deck, which needs some love. And yet, I don’t want to find myself a slave to the house and yard. That’s how I felt when we moved into Amethyst, and landscaping ended up consuming my energy for years.
Thank goodness I’m happy with the painting results so far, because I can dig down and get it done, knowing that it will be great in the end.
