Teaching Miranda to Sew

…on the machine. She had been asking me to reach her how to use the sewing machine for a few weeks and today I finally had time to do it.

We started out with something simple: a drawstring bag for her gym strip at school. I had some purple fabric that just needed cutting down. I had her pin the sides then, after some demonstration, she sewed up the sides and top. I threaded through the drawstring.

The second project was to make a pair of elastic-waisted shorts. I had her cut out the pattern, pin it to the fabric, cut it out, then read the sewing instructions. She got see firsthand how tedious the prep part is and why I’m always whining about that part. Then she pinned the pieces together and sewed them.

Here are some pics.

Coming soon: jammie shorts in nicer fabric.
