The Basement Construction Creeps Closer

Last night, Patricia the designer from PLANiT Builders stopped by our house with carpet swatches, laminate samples, paint chips and door and moulding design catalogs. She was at our place for about an hour and a half, and helped us select the colours for finishing the basement. When I say “finish” the basement, I say that with the knowledge that I anticipate doing some extra painting myself after they are done. PB can do multiple colours in multiple rooms, but they will charge extra for it. I want to have at least an accent wall in the music room, and more likely a darker colour from the bright neutral that we have selected for the rest of the basement. But the confounding factor is that the lighting will be very different in the craft room vs the music room (fluorescent vs. pot lights) and as we saw last night, the colours shift dramatically in different lights: we made a point of taking the carpet and paint samples out to the garage with the fluorescent light to see how they looked there, compared to the incandescent light in the dining room. So I’m happy to wait until the basement is “done” before I make a colour selection for that room.

So far, we have had the Don the sales/estimator, Arnold the measurer and Patricia the designer. I think the next person is the Site Coordinator, and they should be contacting us in the next week or so. The application for the building permit is already in motion.
